Mak Arr'fey's History

Mak was born on Kothlis and had a fairly normal childhood for a Bothan.  A middle child in a family of 7, he has 2 surviving older brothers, a younger sister and both parents.  A younger brother died as a child of a lingering ailment.  Mak learned some useful healing tricks while treating his brother, but not enough to save his life.  He wasn’t overly ambitious as a child, remaining at a midrange level within the pack hierarchy compared to others his own age.

After attending a Bothan academy for 3 years on Bothawui when he was 20, learning politics, bureaucracy & computer science, he dropped out, deciding to travel and apply what skills he’d learned.  He became an apprentice information broker under Gorgol the Hutt, an information broker with a business in the Nal Hutta System.  Gorgol himself operated from Nal Hutta, leaving the footwork to Mak, who frequented the streets of Nar Shaddaa gathering information for his boss.  Mak harvested many contacts of his own, mostly from within the smuggling community, gradually building his own information networks.  He also learned some of the rougher and more furtive ways of obtaining knowledge.  Gorgol was eventually killed, presumably by accident, during a rare visit to Nar Shaddaa.  Almost immediately thereafter, the Bothan Spynet contacted Mak & invited him to join their organization as an operative with underworld contacts.  He accepted.  Throughout this time, he continued to keep tabs on Galactic politics and procedures via the HoloNet, as well as affairs in Bothan society.  The latter was obtained more from the Spynet than anything else.

Mak has maintained minimal to average contact with his family and an average level of contact with his clan; mostly so he isn’t forgotten since he rarely visits home.  He maintains high contact with the Spynet and sends them regular encrypted reports via recording devices they provided.  He continues to cultivate his contacts on Nar Shaddaa and elsewhere, always listening for items of interest that aren’t “public knowledge”.

Mak met a Wookiee named Dryanta on Nar Shaddaa while working as a small-time information broker. She was looking for information on the raiders that slaughtered her village.  Meanwhile, a disgruntled client “convinced” Mak that leaving the planet was a good idea.  Mak convinced the Wookiee he’d need to join her on her travels to provide “up-to-date” information on her quarry.  Luckily she agreed, and he’s been with her ever since.  Mak recommended a pair of bounty hunters originally from the Tapani Sector, called Corsair and Raith, who had both worked for Gorgol for a time.  What started as a business relationship between the four, turned into friendship and a continuing bounty hunting business.  Bothans like Mak aren’t naturally suited for bounty hunting, but he’s made a place for himself within the team (a rare concept in bounty hunting) as a front man, acquiring leads on bounties and negotiating with clients.

Corsair and Raith's ship is the Celestial Profit, a Thunderhead-class patrol ship. Dryanta has an astromech unit named R2-D8 or “Deet”. Raith is a security specialist.
