Entry Three.

Two weeks have passed since our fight with the stormtroopers on the assault shuttle.  Kang spent 4 days in a bacta tank recovering from his wounds.  The shuttle was secured by Master Skywalker and other Jedi.  We were allowed to choose gear from it, after approval from Master Skywalker.  Dakkin got a speeder bike, Kang selected an E-Web, as did Koyi.  They also took some demolitions devices I know little about.  I got a scout's blaster pistol and a couple of power packs.  Koyi got an old R2 unit, designated R2-B7.

One morning, I heard a great noise outside the temple and went outside to investigate.  A corvette landed in the courtyard.  It unloaded supplies and equipment.  A senior Jedi led several new candidates from the corvette into the temple.  It then left.  I'm not sure, but I think that's where Crysta's protocol translator droid, that she calls Brandt, came from.  She said it had been repaired, so I presume it came off the corvette.  She also got a new weapon, which she later explained was a slug-thrower.

Given our recent debacle with the stormtroopers, Master Skywalker decided we needed to get to know one another better, to improve our teamwork and efficiency.  He called Kang, Dakkin, Crysta, Koyi and I together and told us we should do something together for this purpose.  We decided to go camping in the jungle.  We gathered camping gear, comlinks and personal supplies and left the Great Temple the next morning in a landspeeder, with Dakkin flying nearby on his speeder bike.  On the way out, we traveled to Dorsk 81's grave and payed our respects to the fallen hero.  We continued deeper into the jungle where we found a Massassi temple overgrown with foliage near a clearing.  I don't think it has been discovered, otherwise it would have been cleared off.  At least, I would have cleared it off.  During the ride, I sat in the passenger compartment with Crysta and Brandt and learned more about Crysta through discussion.

I asked her about the bow and mysterious arrows she used against the stormtroopers.  She showed me one of the arrows, the glowing tip of which appeared to be mechanical in nature.  She explained they have an effect similar to an ion gun on mechanical devices, like a stormtrooper's helmet comlink.  While setting my blaster on stun and re-holstering it, I saw her cringe away.  She explained she had a bad experience with a blaster once and doesn't like them.  I'll keep that in mind.  I asked her why she carries one and she explained what the slug-throwing gun was.  After we arrived at the overgrown temple, she demonstrated it on a dead tree.  It let off a loud boom and made a small crater in the trunk.

Enough of that, back to the temple we found.  The temple was covered in vines, so we cut a path to its base.  It was getting late, so we decided to explore it further in the morning and made camp in the clearing.  Crysta went hunting while Dakkin & I gathered vegetables.  Crysta brought back a woolamander, which we cooked into a stew.  I noticed that Crysta has fangs while she was eating.  Dakkin and I commented on this and she explained that although all of her race have fangs, hers are no longer retractable.  She explained that this was a punishement from a fight with a peer, whom she accidentally killed.  When she awoke the morning after that fight, she was covered in blood and her fangs could no longer retract.  Normally, she wears a veil, covering her upper face.  She wears it as a means of covering her shame for her action.

We strung up hammocks for the night and set up watches.  I volunteered for the first watch, so I could get a solid sleep cycle.  Kang offered to take second, and Crysta, who has excellent night vision, volunteered for third watch.  Dakkin offered to take the last watch.  Koyi was fortunate enough not to have a watch.  He slept in the landspeeder, fully sealed in the flight suit he always wears.  Unfortunately, the night proved to be less peaceful than expected.  I was awakened during Kang's watch by his distinctive yell.  Eight stintaril had smelled the leftover stew and were trying to get a quick meal.  Stintaril must be the ugliest rat-like creatures in the galaxy, at least, in my opinion.  Everyone woke up during the fight, even Koyi, who promptly manned the landspeeder's laser turret.  We fought the stintaril off, killing them all.  Crysta apparently drained the blood from one.  We noticed this after the battle, as she was lowering one from her mouth with her chin covered in blood.  Dakkin puked upon seeing this.  Meanwhile, the various smells of charred stintaril, ozone and vomit made me nauseous.  I didn't get any sleep after that and spent the rest of the night cleaning stintaril carcasses that were safe to eat.  I say "safe" because any that Kang fought were likely to have been poisoned by his claws.  Crysta went off to a nearby stream to clean up, followed by Kang, who went along in case there were more stintaril about.

Morning arrived, and Crysta returned wearing a full veil, covering her whole face.  Her body was also fully clothed, which is rare for her, since she thinks clothing is restrictive.  She sat down by the fire and said nothing.  I presume she is atoning for drinking the stintaril's blood.  I fixed the edible stintaril for breakfast, after all, waste not, want not...
